Hello and welcome to my travel blog! My name is Charles Bingaman (Charlie) and I am from Sacramento, California. I am 18 years old and about to begin the biggest adventure of my life. As a Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) student representing the Greater Sacramento Rotary District 5180 and sponsored by the Fair Oaks Rotary Club, I will spend my 2019-2020 academic year in Tarija, Bolivia, Rotary District 4690.
I am an avid photographer, a 2nd-degree black belt in Kenpo Karate, and a graduate of the Sacramento Waldorf School. I love living near the American River and being able to go on long walks, and bikes rides through in nature. Some of my favorite things recently have been spending time with my friends who are leaving for college, seeing family, and exploring places in California like Tahoe, Sonoma, Auburn, and Old Sacramento. My most recent big trip was to Japan where every day was a mixture of incredible sights, lots of walking, searches for vegetarian food, and of course, endless photography! For the past few years, I have participated in speech and debate, raised thousands of dollars to fight cancer and support girls education, and been very active in Student Government at my school. The picture below is of my high school class on the last day of our senior trip.
I have to give a shout-out to Avianna Clempson for inspiring me to create my own blog, as well as for documenting her entire year so well. Reading her blog gave me an idea of what to expect and be excited for, and when I reached out to her she was gracious enough to tell me everything I need to know to get started! Check out her blog at this link http://aviannainbolivia.blogspot.com/
The goal with this blog is not just so that I can keep my family and friends updated, but I see it also as a way for future exchange students to Bolivia or really anywhere to see what a year might look like.
